According to preliminary figures in Gartner’s latest quarterly server shipment sales report, x86 servers declined 5.9% in Q4, the worst decline of the decade. The internet bubble also collapsed this decade and these numbers are worse.
HP declined slightly down 1.5%, implying share gains. Dell lost share, showing a 7% decline. IBM really lost share, down 22%. Sun picked up share in x86 presumably at the expense of Sun servers – which overall share was in-line with the market, x86 share dropped only .5% – this implies SPARC units dropped 9%.
